CHAPTER 4:: PERMANENT COLLABORATION
“Sometimes I feel had we not
challenged each other we might have never met. “ said Koyal with a mischievous
smile on her face getting ready to tease Ankur for the nth time with the same
line. Somehow, Ankur can’t handle the thought of not meeting Koyal. The guy,
who never ever wanted to be in a relationship and always wanted to maintain a
healthy distance between him and women, is now crazy for this sweet bundle of
mischievous energy, Koyal.
Ankur just ignored her;
something more is bothering him. The only family member he is left with, his
father, now missing from past 59 hours. He knows Koyal would loose her mind and
turn into a detective trying to find all possible clues and the lack of any
would even drive her crazy. She grew close to him so much in these few days,
that she waits for weekends to spend all her time with him. He is struggling to
tell her the truth while he was able to skip office under the pretext of some
close friend’s wedding and try to search each and every possible corner of the
city where he thought he could find his father.
Searching and finding a 62
year old sane man, should not have been this difficult, that too, in this age
of connectivity. He has been following each and every twice still everything
has lead him to dead end.
Koyal, was unable to
understand this difference in his behavior. He never said that he had a close
friend, for whom he would take leaves that too during the time of appraisals
and promotions. She wants him to open up to her rather than she trying to get
it out of him. His eyes all tired, indicating lack of sleep, his clothes all
dirty, indicating he never changed in at least three days, his body odor too
indicating he has not had time to bathe for even a minute. And his arrival to
her flat that too around this late in the night is making her worried and
crazy. Still she is trying to keep a straight face in front of him and not
trying to trouble him with even more questions, who already look devastated.
She excused herself for loo
but while leaving his side, he is not letting her hand from his hand even after
she pleaded. He is not at all relenting. Just tightening his grips on her hand
with her every pull away. She screamed at the top of her voice in his ear to
bring him back to senses. Getting back to senses with a jerk he pulled himself
away from her. He is frightened and tortured to very core. He slowly started
releasing his grip on her hand, understanding his situation she pulled him into
a tight hug.
Tears started rolling down
his cheeks. He hugged her even tighter. All the desperation, all the pain, all
the twisted scares spinning in his head are now rolling out in the form of
tears. He is inconsolable. Her eyes even started to wet seeing his condition,
feeling his emotion. She did not try to break the hug he is not ready to let
go….
It is amazing to even think
that two completely mad egoistic geeks can find each other through a childish
challenge where no body won but the hearts met. He found her skills amazing,
she found his timing and impromptu moves brilliant. Both started respecting
each other. They kept running into each other in the elevators. They started
exchanging glances whenever they passed each other even when they were with
their favorite companies. They even started waiting for each other near the
elevator area to just sneak in some moments of happy coincidences. Finally,
Koyal asked Ankur, for a coffee breaking the silence art flimsy routines. Ankur
was overjoyed and there, a love story was born. Ankur, never hid anything from
his father, so he took Koyal directly to his house and to her surprise, Venkat,
Ankur’s father, was so welcoming and he shared all his childhood funny stories
and showed her all his wife’s belongings which she wished to be gifted for her
son’s bride before her death. His request to her was simple, “Never let go of
Ankur”..
Both Venkat and Koyal, grew
close to an extent that she used to spend any free time with Venkat at his
house than with Ankur. Whenever, Ankur complained about it, she used to reverse
complain on him to Venkat. Even Koyal’s family was happy with the alliance and
everything was set for the lovebirds to get married and start their own family.
Like always, life just pulled them out of their happy bubble.
After a long time, Ankur,
whispered in Koyal’s ear, “Dad, is missing from two days, I have been searching
for him all over the city…”
While he was still talking,
Koyal couldn’t believe what she was hearing. In state of shock, she pulled away
from Ankur and she looked at him. Her shock slowly transformed into disbelief
and fear. She was unable to digest the news, while Ankur was speaking, “ I
don’t know what happened to him, I never felt this alone, never this helpless..
Hope he is alive.. Hope nothing bad has happened ..”
Hearing this she slapped him
hard twice and ..
“You thought I don’t deserve
to know what happened to Venkat? .. Why did you not tell me immediately after
you knew? .. What are you doing here? Why are you not searching? Even though
with an instance you made me outsider.. I am going to let this go, as it is now
time to meet Venkat. Wherever he is, he is alive and he might just been to an
unannounced vacation. It’s not time to sit and cry, its’ time for action ..
Just get up …. As you proved useless .. let me try now and you will be silent
all through and will only talk when I ask you to. (searching fanatically all
over her room) . Where are my keys?? “
Ankur silently hangs her car
keys near her face. She grabs them and he follows her. In the car, ..
“See Mr. Ankur, this is a
Permanent Collaboration. And even though it is quite evident that you think
otherwise, we are family and never ever repeat this ever.. “
Ankur was spell bound and he
couldn’t thank his gods less. Now, he wanted the destiny to be kind once again
and show him his Papa..
