My Recommendations:: Best Movies of 2016

My Recommendations:: Best Movies of 2016! The year 2016 has come to an end and we are entering the new calendar year, 2017 marking that our dear rock in the universe, Earth completed its one revolution around our beloved Star Sun like its been doing for billions of years. Well, as humans we are bound to celebrate such an occasion looking forward to a new year with renewed enthusiasm leaving the bygone year worries to the history for records. The cinema in 2016 saw some great moments and very dull moments as well. Recounting the best moments to step into the new year on a positive note, I am giving you the list of my best cinematic experiences in theatre for the year of 2016! I watch films from 6 languages mainly, English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. Of all these Kannada is the industry I am amazed and impressed with the fast progress and different cinema it is encouraging and throughly disappointed with the lack of audacity to encourage freshness on the part of...

My View/ Observations:: Dangal - Wrestle the odds

DANGAL - Wrestle the odds This year has been a mixed bag all together with several films being great like Pink and rest of them being disposable like Great Grand Masti. But every year you are in search of a film that makes you go gaga over the time it took for the makers to assemble it. The sheer brilliance that went into making a movie of such scale and perfection. For me each and every movie no matter what is the story needs such an effort and dedication from the makers whose ultimate goal lies in box office performance. Not judging their intentions but you do need some sort of reliability from the makers when you're investing your valuable time and money for almost 3 to 4 hours in travel and theatre for the sake of entertainment. This year I found my worth for every penny theatrical experience in DANGAL! Right from the word go, movie sucks you into its world and never lets you wander off. It never demands you to invest your intellectual energy at the same time it...

My Views/ Observations ::Befikre - Plastic Glory - My view!

Befikre - Plastic Glory!! When you watch a movie you expect few things looking at the past and hoping for a pleasant present. While walking into an Adi Chopra film, one would expect the director of romantic movies like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Mohabbatein and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi to deliver if not a classic like DDLJ, at least a decent film with strong romance. Here the director falters big time with wafer thin plot line trying to make it edgy racy and new age.  Imtiaz Ali is a one of kind maker in India. His thoughts and scripting abilities are entirely on a different pedestal and he doesn't make a glaring mistake like casting two actors who after a point seem to repeat their actions and do nothing but look PLASTIC. In one word, you can describe Befikre as the depiction of Plastic emotions felt more plastically with an elastic screenplay that keeps on dragging for a bit and then some more, finally, delivering one big elastic fist pump that slaps you hard for walk...

My Observations:: Dear Zindagi - Past - Present - Future!

Dear Zindagi - Past - Present - Future!  I always write my views as Observations as I do not really want to impose myself on viewers of a film with my ramblings. Not that I can but this is just a humble way to remind you that whatever you read here is the Blog runners opinion but not something written on wall and you should take it with a pinch of salt.  I am a fan of good cinema. For every film I enter the theatre with a belief that this film will be the greatest I am ever going to watch. Even the trailers may suggest otherwise, I do not really judge the book by its cover rather I wait to peel the content, embrace the feel a maker wants to deliver and then form my opinion about it. A story being said in silences and conversations, that is Dear Zindagi for you in a nutshell.  It is not trying to be overly smart, not trying to make you like its characters by hook or crook. It just keeps flowing on screen asking you to embrace the life unfolding in front of ...

Kapoor and Sons My Review/Observation

Kapoor and Sons Movie Review! Cast:  Rishi Kapoor, Siddharth Malhotra, Fawad Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ratna Pathak Shah, Rajat Kapoor Music:  Amaal Malik, Badshah Back Ground Score:  Sameer Uddin Producer:  Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta Written by:  Shakun Batra, Ayesha Devitre Dhillon  Direction:  Shakun Batra Basic Plot: No family is perfect, but in a memory they pass on like a photography they could all look like a tight-nit one, happy and contend. Any elder member of the family would wish this kind of a memory to be passed on to his/her future generations.  Likewise, Dadu(Rishi Kapoor), who wants to attract attention towards him keeps playacting like he died on spot many-a-times in front of his son, Harsh Kapoor (Rajat Kapoor) and daughter-in-law, Sunitha Kapoor (Ratna Pathak Shah). Marvel's Doctor Strange - Review/Observation

When all hell breaks bad and you are none but a commoner being who can only defend someone in their sleep with dream filled subconscious playing out the weirdest possible scenarios and triumph, you need some of those dreams to come into existence in real life. You want Superheroes, our mind constantly finds them in film heroes, army men, a crazy lunatic, comic books and so on. In the case of comic books we are engaged to the idea of their existence right from a very young age giving into their superpowers and thinking that saving world from earthly dangers is all bite a miniscule accomplishment so we need aliens who contact, surreal realms that are posing threat to our existence. Well, there you go with a cloak flying from one place to another and creating portals to mystic dimensions laced in pure magic and complex scientific equations. Let the Strange emotional dimension begin... There is no denying that we watch film for the purposes of entertainment and relaxation after ...

FAN Movie Review!!

Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Waluscha de Souza, Sayani Gupta Music : Andrea Guerra Producer : Aditya Chopra Written by : Habib Faisal Direction: Maneesh Sharma Basic Plot: Can an obsession be good? Whatever form it takes can it make you an individual or will it just let you fall down even in your eyes? How much can you own a person? How lonely do you feel when the person you love doesn't reciprocate in the same manner? Doesn't being you yourself and then an admirer help you?? How thin is the line between a criminal obsession and an innocent admiration?! Gaurav Chandana (Shah Rukh Khan) is a die-hard fan of Aryan Khanna ( Shah Rukh Khan). He imbibes him so much into his life that for him thinking about Aryan is equal to living and breathing through every second. His obsession has no bounds. He is best impersonator of the actor and he is his look-a-like too. One evening on Dussehra he wins a best fan competition and likes to share that with his st...

John Wick Movie Review ..

JOHN WICK MOVIE REVIEW I know Keenu Reaves as Speed movie star and Matrix series Star. When I saw John Wick trailer, I thought oh another action film which supposedly a comeback of some sorts. I thought let's give this a try even though it looked completely formulaic and cliched.  The film tries to be true to what it is. An action film more about it's action episodes. The action episodes work out really well. They are bloody and at some parts are believably real. Nothing to be said about story. It just a film that helps you to enjoy the stunt choreography more than it's content.

Kill Dil Movie Review

KILL DIL REVIEW  Another Friday for the Hindi Film Audience and another film hoping to sweep them off their seats has come into theatres hoping to create a magic spell on the Audience and score at the Box office.  The film name happens to be Kill Dil owing an homage, obviously in their heads, to Kill Bill series. Quentin Torantino might chase me down for even mentioning his classic series, but could not resist the temptation. A big Sorry sir! Now coming to this Shaad Ali directed, torture of 2 hrs12 minutes thanks for sparing us with the runtime, by the way. This film has nothing new to offer even in the form of performances except for Govinda, who is effective as Bhaiyya ji, a goon.

Interstellar -A review / An Observation..

INTERSTELLAR-- an Observation I think most of you have watched this latest sci-fi offering from Nolan. Trust me when I say I am literally a devotee of Christopher Nolan. His strength in handling emotions, complex situations and writing a non-linear sequence with at most ease never seizes to amaze me. I am one of those who waits for his films to learn or make notes off. Somehow, even when many feel like an exercise sitting through his films I feel they are satisfying. Don't get me wrong, I am all in for simple yet satisfying experience that any film provides. But a Nolan film, asks you to involve in it, indulges you in it's complex web and makes you think and follows you after walking out the theatre. I find this aspect of Nolan's films very interesting and a fun exercise.  I am not any intellect or an astro-physicist, I am just a normal film enthusiast. What I am trying here is to convey the experience that I had watching the film and also my observations a...

Manam - manam Telugu movie review

Manam (మనం) which means "we", in telugu, is a movie made with all heart and passion. I can support my statement with the example of a scene.. Bittu (played by Nagarjuna), is a rich, well educated person but an orphan longing for his parents since he lost them in a tragic car accident. He watches the birthday video recorded by his parents during his last birthday celebration with both of them.  On a chance encounter, he meets his dad(played by Naga Chaitanya), look alike during a plane journey.   The little boy in him overpowers his manners and even though it creates a lot of annoyance to the college going look alike dad, he wants to capture a photo and saviour the moment. This brings more and more laughs from the audience but the nuance and wish of that little boy are captured well here. i am talking about the scene where bittu, sets out to find his mother. He searches everywhere, and the moment he finds her after a long wait, (mother, played well by Samantha), the exp...

KRRISH 3 MOVIE REVIEW

We all need to satisfy that fantasy craving little boy in all of us which makes us watch the sci-fi adventures and superhero outlandish films with glee. We need someone to save us .. Some threat to destroy demolish and a hero who unites us and destroys the devilish plans and restores the humanity.  Hollywood has been producing a Super man, Batman, Spiderman, X-men and many more... Now it's Bollywood's turn to produce a desi- super hero, a genre which Indian hindi film industry infact entire Indian film industry as least explored. Except for many heroes trying to be super humans we don't have a proper super-hero to boost off. We do have Hanuman but we do need a proper one with cool costume and a mask, all the cool stuff you see.  With Koi Mil Gaya, Rakesh Roshan decided to give a super-hero to Indian audience, following the success he made Krissh and now after super success he is back with Krrish 3 ..(Don't ask me where is 2.. we were time travelling then) ...

7 Khoon Maaf- realistic but not....

Vishal Bharadwaj...the director who adopted great stories with conviction and presented them in his own style..now came back with 7 khoon maaf. I liked his work in Khaminey, and then saw his other films Omkaara, Maqbool and Blue Umbrella. Every film had his distinct touch and he was very true to the story. Even Kaminey, a formulaic story, looked real when he presented it.

GAGANAM- A Ride to remember

I was very eager to watch this film from first title to end credit. So I ran to the theater before the show started. But theater people didn't understand my eagerness and they made me to wait for 30 minutes..outside. My eagerness turned into restlessness...but I came to watch a movie in a theater and I can watch it only when theater is ready to show it to me and others.... The wait came to end and I rushed to my seat. I wasn't comfortable even watching ads...which normally play before the film..this continued till I saw the censor certificate. Now I started relaxing in my seat. Film slowly started with the introduction of passengers and flight. What a work by art department..No one can say that flight was not original but a set....And even the Airport. Kudos to the Art department. Then the passengers..they are performers not fakers. They know what do u mean when we say "acting".  The comedy in the movie took off with Shining Star-his fan episode. The flight was...

Maryada Ramanna A review/ Opnion

Maryada Ramanna --Good to watch!! Maryada Ramanna, a film by S.S.RAJAMOULI.  I didn't expect much from the movie as I advised not to by my friends who saw it earlier. I am happy that Rajamouli came up with a different film from his routine stories. This is totally a director movie, as there are no stars in this movie. Sunil is a very known comedian but not sure he can carry off a film on his shoulders.  Plz..click on read more to read more furthur..

8*10 TASVEER-- FICTIONOUS REALITY!!

8*10 Tasveer Cast:: Akshay Kumar, Ayesha Takia, Sharmila Tagore, Girish Karnad, Javed Jaffrey Crew:: Written & Directed By Nagesh Kukunoor Producers:: Bhushan Kumar, Elahe Hiptoola ANALYSIS:: Movie starts off well but doesn't maintain a decent pace which is required for these kind of thrillers !! I am not looking for a race but here the slowness harms the movie very badly! This thriller is dependent on a fictional element like "Going into a photograph" but it tries to be real and show that everything is happening in this world only and ends in a fictional manner!! We can call it a "FICTIOUS REALITY" Thriller film!! The slow pace and repetition of a same scene several times creates a kind of been there seen it all feeling towards the end and climax proves that and gives us a feeling that we saw it earlier!! About CAST & CREW:: Writer-Director Nagesh Kukunoor did a o.k. job!! He should have cleared those plot holes which hammer the film like anything!...
