Vishal Bharadwaj...the director who adopted great stories with conviction and presented them in his own style..now came back with 7 khoon maaf. I liked his work in Khaminey, and then saw his other films Omkaara, Maqbool and Blue Umbrella. Every film had his distinct touch and he was very true to the story.
Even Kaminey, a formulaic story, looked real when he presented it.
My expectations were very high with this film. He never disappointed me through out the 16 reels, but the story lacked the essence of his earlier works which were real, dark and engaging. Looking at one women, whose life is being shattered by six male psychos, this word might look like exaggeration but i couldn't find any correct one rather than this, i felt like exhausted.
The place where the story was happening was never clearly established but we need to understand that it is an Anglo-Indian house. After a point, the film was very predictable and takes some effort to watch it without yawning. I am a bit disappointed with the second part of the film. The first part provides us with various flavours and we really enjoy the proceedings and empathize with our main protagonist, Sussanne. On the flip side, we just scream for the film to end. There is a twist in the end, which infuses some interest, but i think it's a bit too dragged to get our optimum interest back.
Priyanka Chopra which her performance was very believable and brought the character, Sussanne, to life. All others, who include Nasiruddin Shah, Neil Nithin Mukesh, Annu Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, John Abraham, Aleksandr Dyachenko and Konkana Sen Sharma, gave good performances but we connect only with a talented debutant, Vivaan Shah, son of Nasiruddin shah and Ratna Patak Shah. He gave an incredible performance considering him to be a debutant.
Cinematography by Ranjan Palit was good.
Music and Background score by Vishal Bhardwaj himself were very good.
Editing by Sreekar Prasad was good.
Finally, watch it if you like your film to be more real and dark. This is not everyone's meal but if your a film aspirant, must watch.
