KILL DIL REVIEW
Another Friday for the Hindi Film Audience and another film hoping to sweep them off their seats has come into theatres hoping to create a magic spell on the Audience and score at the Box office.
The film name happens to be Kill Dil owing an homage, obviously in their heads, to Kill Bill series. Quentin Torantino might chase me down for even mentioning his classic series, but could not resist the temptation. A big Sorry sir! Now coming to this Shaad Ali directed, torture of 2 hrs12 minutes thanks for sparing us with the runtime, by the way. This film has nothing new to offer even in the form of performances except for Govinda, who is effective as Bhaiyya ji, a goon.
Now like in any film based on Gangster-friends, these two close and kill for each other. If one is silent the other is too hyper and talkative. How can we miss Sholay formula. Enters heroine into the equation, Parneeti Chopra. She wears short dresses, she can curse, she is broad minded, attractive and fears guns. Dev likes her instantly and due to their growing equation he becomes good at heart and can't kill anymore. When he seeks permission to leave, Bhaiyyaji gets angry and slaps him hard. Somehow, with the help of his friend, TuTu, he manages a double life, where he is a killer for Bhaiyyaji and an MBA graduate, working as a Life Insurance Agent, for his love. I believe the end is predictable from here. I would like to move on from describing the story now. So sorry, if you were still waiting for me to tell you the rest!
Govinda, is a delight as Bhaiyyaji. He delivers a convincing performance and dances well in one song. Ranveer Singh is getting typecast and he needs to find a new identity for him soon. Ali Zafar is ok. Parineeti Chopra decided to wear short dresses and show off. But she looks uncomfortable in them and couldn't carry them at all. Weight is not the issue it's the oomph that is missing. You can't look like a desperate aunty who wears all kind off slutty outfit to lure boys and expect to come off as a score!
Shaad Ali, who made Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, whose music was great but lacked in substance. Again goes for a musical kind off treatment to this Regular Gangster film. It is great if everything works out but to sit through a predictable film with lighter moments here and there, which are predictable, you need kick ass musical score that captures your attention never let go. Here Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy did try their best to create such an album but too little they could do to save the sinking ship. Shaad Ali needs to come up with substance and then treat the script, however he wishes. The jokes are as bad and as old as , Haati-cheeti jokes, for who heroine replies in, "LOL", by the way.
Bollywood, trying to rehash the old classics in a new way and find the formula to recreate the magic. But they need to understand this is a new era and they need to come up with new ideas to entertain the audience.
Bottom line: Lacklustre! Kill our Dil for movies!
